The Role of Armour in the Australian Defence Force is defined as:
"The co-ordination with other arms, to close with and destroy the enemy forces using fire, manoeuvre and shock action."
The 12th Australian Armoured Regiment was a regiment of the 6th Armoured Brigade, 2nd Armoured Division during the Second World War. It was formed in May 1942 from the 18th Light Horse Regiment and was disbanded in April 1943.
