1st Armoured Car Regiment


The Role of Armour in the Australian Defence Force is defined as:

"The co-ordination with other arms, to close with and destroy the enemy forces using fire, manoeuvre and shock action."

The 1st Armoured Car Regiment was raised late 1933 as 19th Light Horse Armoured Car Regiment in Horsham Victoria (after 19th Light Horse (Wimmera) Regiment was unlinked from the 17th Light Horse Regiment). It was initialled equipped with LP-1 Armoured Cars (and later the LP-2, LP3 and LP-4 Armoured Cars) and eventually became the 101st Motor Regiment in March 1942.
