2nd/4th Australian Armoured Regiment


The Role of Armour in the Australian Defence Force is defined as:

"The co-ordination with other arms, to close with and destroy the enemy forces using fire, manoeuvre and shock action."

The 2nd/4th Australian Armoured Regiment was a regiment of the 4th Armoured Brigade, 3rd Armoured Division during the Second World War. It was formed in October 1942 and was disbanded in September 1945 at the end of hostilities. The regiment was formed from the 2nd/1st and 2nd/2nd Light Tank Squadrons and D Squadron, 2nd/11th Armoured Car Regiment. It saw active service on Bougainville Island against the Japanese from March to August 1945.
