2nd/8th Australian Armoured Regiment


The Role of Armour in the Australian Defence Force is defined as:

"The co-ordination with other arms, to close with and destroy the enemy forces using fire, manoeuvre and shock action."

The 2nd/8th Australian Armoured Regiment was a unit of the 2nd Australian Armoured Brigade, 1st Armoured Division during the Second World War. It was formed in June 1941 and was disbanded in September 1945 at the end of hostilities. The regiment was formed originally as a tank regiment and was disbanded in February 1944 when it converted to the 41st, 42nd and 43rd Landing Craft Companies.

It saw active service in Papua New Guinea and Borneo against the Japanese.
