2nd Australian Army Tank Battalion


The Role of Armour in the Australian Defence Force is defined as:

"The co-ordination with other arms, to close with and destroy the enemy forces using fire, manoeuvre and shock action."

The 2nd Army Tank Battalion was a unit of the 3rd Army Tank Brigade, 3rd Armoured Division during the Second World War. It was formed in May 1942 and was disbanded in March 1944. The unit was formed originally from the 2nd Armoured Car Regiment and became the 2nd Australian Army Tank Battalion.
