3rd Australian Army Tank Battalion


The Role of Armour in the Australian Defence Force is defined as:

"The co-ordination with other arms, to close with and destroy the enemy forces using fire, manoeuvre and shock action."

The 3rd Army Tank Battalion was a unit of the 3rd Army Tank Brigade, 3rd Armoured Division during the Second World War. It was formed in May 1942 and was disbanded in March 1944. It was formed originally from the 3rd Armoured Regiment and became the 3rd Australian Army Tank Battalion.
