6th Armoured Car Regiment


The Role of Armour in the Australian Defence Force is defined as:

"The co-ordination with other arms, to close with and destroy the enemy forces using fire, manoeuvre and shock action."

The 6th Armoured Car Regiment was formed in New South Wales from the 6th Light Horse Regiment (New South Wales Mounted Rifles) and was disbanded in February 1943.

 

Corporal (later Sergeant) William Sefton Bowman, 6th Armoured Car Regiment, of Parkes, NSW. A farmer serving with the 6th Light Horse, he enlisted in Walgrove, NSW on 14 December 1942. He was involved in manoeuvres with armoured cars at Wattamolla Beach, NSW, when he broke his neck after diving into shallow water during a rest period. He died in hospital on 11th February 1943.
