Australian Light Horse Regiments - Militia - 1920 to 1942  Victoria

With the end of the First War World, Australia's Light Horse regiments were mostly disbanded in 1919. The 1920s and 1930s saw the reformation of the Light Horse regiments as militia units, many of whom inherited battle honours and traditions from AIF and pre World War One Light Horse regiments.

The Victorian Light Horse units were part of the 5th Cavalry Brigade between 1921 and 1936. This was raised in Melbourne, Victoria in 1921. The HQ of the 5th Cavalry Brigade was disbanded in October, 1936.

The Second World War saw many of these militia regiments either disbanded, formed into AIF motorised units or used in the defence of mainland Australia.
