A Squadron, 3rd/9th Light Horse (South Australian Mounted Rifles)


The Role of Armour in the Australian Defence Force is defined as:

"The co-ordination with other arms, to close with and destroy the enemy forces using fire, manoeuvre and shock action."

 

The 3rd/9th Light Horse (South Australian Mounted Rifles) is an Army Reserve Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) unit located at Smithfield, South Australia. It is currently part of the 9th Brigade. The regiment became an independent Reconnaissance Squadron in 1976 and was equipped with the M113A1. In August 2006, the regiment replaced its fleet of M113A1 APCs with 4x4 Land Rovers and is now tasked as an Independent Light Cavalry Squadron.

The Regiment is comprised of the following sub units:

Operational Support Troop
