Each year, a rugby match is held by the Corp to determine which unit is worthy to attain the Adjutants Cup. The match is normally held by the winning unit and is contested by all other armoured units.
History. "The Adjutants' Cup Challenge Trophy ‑ for the best Regiment at Rugby" was originally presented to the RAAC on 11 September 1975 by:
a. Captain P. Priede ‑ Adjutant 1st Armoured Regiment,
b. Captain W. Butler ‑ Adjutant 2nd Cavalry Regiment, and
c. Captain D. Leslie ‑ Adjutant 4th Cavalry Regiment.
Ironically, the first competition was contested one year prior, in August of 1974 with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment emerging victorious. Since 1974, it has been fought for and won by every regular RAAC unit, including the School of Armour, who were successful in 1989. At the date of this publication, 2nd/I4th Light Horse Regiment (Queensland Mounted Infantry) held the record for the most consecutive wins, having successfully retained the Cup from 1993 to 1997.
Despite lengthy periods without contest in its earlier years, the Adjutants' Cup has been contested annually since 1992 to the present day.
More than ever, the Adjutants' Cup is recognised as an RAAC icon, that is fiercely contested by Regiments, in their continuing quest for glory, whilst engendering espirit de corps in the RAAC.
