B Squadron, 3rd/4th Cavalry Regiment - Motto

History of the Regimental Motto

During the drafting of the regimental badge, there was speculation about incorporating a motto within the design in order to enhance the meaning of the unit badge.  Many attempts at incorporating a motto within the badge finally led to the acceptance of our current motto.

It is uncertain how the 3rd Cavalry Regiment’s motto was selected from a variety of choices, but the Scorpion emblem may have been attributed to the selection of the word “Resolute”.  It is believed that astrological selection for the sign of Scorpio suggests that persons under the influence of Scorpio are reputed to have the following characteristics:

            Powerful effects on observers

            Adaptable, humanitarian and capable of self sacrifice

            RESOLUTE in action during danger and emergency

            Dependable in crisis

            Original in thought

            Good organiser in warfare

            Excellent diplomats and negotiators

It is undetermined how the 4th Cavalry Regiment’s motto was derived from as there are no references available to comment from.  It is believed that the motto was formed during the design acceptance of the badge as per the 3rd Cavalry Regiments inception.  The badge and motto would therefore have been introduced to its members around the same period as every other cavalry unit.

Unit Mottos:

a.                  3rd Cavalry Regiment            -           RESOLUTE

(firmly resolved or determined), and

b.                  4th Cavalry Regiment            -           TENACIOUS

(holding fast, persistent, stubborn, or obstinate)

The following is a list of examples that were submitted during the designing of the regimental badge for 3rd Cavalry Regiment:

a.  VIGOR ET MOBILITAS (Strength and Mobility);

b.  Cleanse the East with Steel;

            c.  NIL NISI CERTUM (Nothing without making certain)

            d.  Speed and Vigilance
